For years, Jean-Michel Cazes, owner of the Château Lynch-Bages in Pauillac, had meandered along the roads of Languedoc. Attracted by “patchwork quilt” of legendary terroirs that underpins the region, his gaze fell upon La Livinière, a village at the foot of the Montagne Noire, birthplace of the greatest vineyards in Minervois.
In 2002, Jean-Michel Cazes created Domaine l’Ostal Cazes, an estate of 150 hectares, consisting of 50 hectares of vines and 25 hectares of olive trees. Together with his son Jean-Charles, they chose a name imbued with meaning and history: L’Ostal Cazes. In old “Langue d’Oc” (Occitan), “L’Ostal” encapsulates the ideas of both the house and the family living there.
The estate extended its range in 2011 to include L’Ostal Cazes Rosé: the result of a blend of Grenache and Syrah from the coolest terroirs in the property and throughout the region. Fine, light and fruity: this will be the wine to enjoy in the summer.
Suffused with light and transparency, its stylish, minimalist label evokes its delicate freshness.
